Note: When a disc is created in a compatible format, the settings on the recording
application may still cause playback failures.
1.3.1 DVD-Video
Compatibility
The compatible DVD-Video format supports the following functions:
Single-sided or double-sided discs
Single Layer or dual-layer discs
Dolby Digital, DTS, MPEG or Linear PCM digital audio
MPEG-2 digital audio
DVD-Video discs are divided into one or more titles. Each title may be
divided into smaller sequences called chapters (Fig 1-2).

1.3.2 Audio CD Compatibility
The compatible Audio CD format supports the following functions:
12cm (5”) or 8cm (3”) discs
Linear PCM digital audio
CD-Audio, CD-R or CD-RW formats
(plays CD-R/RW discs recorded in
CD Audio/Video CD
format or with MP3 audio files)
Note: Audio CDs are divided into tracks rather than titles and chapters.
1.3.3 Video CD Compatibility
The compatible Video CD format supports the following functions:
12cm (5”) or 8cm (3”) discs
MPEG-1 digital audio
MPEG-1 digital video
Like Audio CDs, Video CDs are divided into tracks (Fig 1-3).
