Determination of Allowed Operation on Runway
To determine if an aircraft can operate without restrictions on a pavement, do as follows:
1
From the Pavement Type Code, determine the:
−
Pavement Classification Number (PCN)
−
Pavement Type
−
Subgrade Strength
−
Tyre Pressure Limit
−
PCN Evaluation Method.
2
Determine the Aircraft Classification Number (ACN) as follows:
−
Determine the maximum operating weight of the aircraft
−
Depending on the pavement type, go to the appropriate chart
.
−
Navigate to the weight on the horizontal axis
−
Navigate upwards to the appropriate Subgrade Strength line
−
Navigate to the left to the vertical axis to find the ACN.
3
Determine the main gear tyre pressure
4
Aircraft can operate without restrictions on the pavement if the ACN is equal to or lower
than the PCN, and, the main gear tyre pressure is below the tyre pressure limit.
5
If the ACN is higher than the PCN, either reduce the aircraft operating weight until the
ACN is equal to or lower than the PCN, or, contact the airport authorities for a possible
exemption.
