Notes on using the device in the 5 GHz frequency
band
The device is certified for the use of channels in the 5 GHz band according to
ETSI EN 301893, Version 1.3.1. Please note the following:
–
By default upon delivery, the access points and access clients use DFS (Dynamic
Frequency Selection) and TPC (Transmission Power Control) on all 5 GHz channels,
for both indoor and outdoor configuration. The devices can therefore always be
operated with a maximum emission level of 23 dBm or 30 dBm.
3.1.1
Using standard 802.11a/h
When standard 802.11a is used, the settings can be fixed for the four lowest channels, but
not for the remaining channels.
When the access point is switched on, it executes an initial radar detection scan and waits
for 60 seconds for a radar pulse on a randomly selected available channel before operation
is started on this channel.
The 60 second scan is repeated every 24 hours and results in a connection abort.
If a radar pulse is detected by an access client during operation, this is indicated to the
access point according to 802.11h. The access point then changes channel as a result or
due to an independent detection with a channel switch according to 802.11h. The duration
of the connection abort is usually less than 80 ms.
When access points are used outdoors, DFS must not be disabled. On an access client,
DFS may be disabled (default setting for client is DFS disabled).
For an overview of the channels available in the 5 GHz frequency band, please refer to
"Frequency spectrum for IEEE 802.11 a/h" on page 1-9.
An application note on operating the device in the 5 GHz band with designation
"F L_WLAN_24_im_5GHz_802_11a_h_Betrieb_Rev_02_DE.pdf" can be downloaded at
www.phoenixcontact.com
.
The settings can only be fixed for the four lowest channels (non-DFS) if DFS is disabled.
Please note that disabling DFS also disables the 60 s scan, 24 h scan, and radar
detection functions.
