5.3.4 Other Icons and Settings
The other Sleuth status icons (not described above) serve the same function(s) that they have in the Detective
X software application. They are also controlled by settings in the Detective X software application. For
instance, the gain stabilizer may be disabled for Sleuth by switching to the Detective X software application
and unchecking the “Stabilize on K-40” box discussed in Section 4.14. Similarly, refer to Sections 4.6.4 and
4.6.5 to select integration times for nuclide identifications and to enable suspect nuclide identifications.
Many settings available within the Detective X software application are nonsensical for Sleuth and so are
ignored. For instance, Sleuth has no facility to require alarm acknowledgements as discussed in Section 4.5.1.
For similar reasons, an “Identify Preset” and enabling “Multiple spectrum analysis” in the Detective X
software application will be ignored by the Sleuth (see Sections 4.7.3 and 4.7.4).
Sleuth does support audio and vibratory alert setting discussed in Section 4.4.1 and personnel hazard alarms
discussed in Section 4.5.2. Sleuth also supports nuclide threat level promotion settings discussed in Section
4.16.
A comparison of the advanced settings and the use of each setting in both Detective X and Sleuth modes can
be seen in Table 3.
NOTE In general, users should use the distance indicator on the Sleuth “Home” screen (Figure 98)
to optimize the distance to the IPC. This means that for “5 Min KNW”, “5 Min UNK”, and
“30 Min UNK” the user should expect to see the “Distance from Source OK” (Figure 102)
indicator prior to beginning the measurement.
When performing a “5 Min BKG”, users should be trained to move far away from any
potential radiation sources such that the “Move Closer to Target” (Figure 101) indicator is
displayed on the Home screen before starting the measurement.
