Chapter 7 Cleaning, Disinfection and Sterilization Procedures for Endoscopic Instruments

Removing and rinsing the endoscope and all reprocessing
equipment
Cleaning solutions may contain various aggressive
compounds (e.g. chlorine) which damage the instrument by
corrosion. To remove all residuals, rinse the instrument
thoroughly with de-ionized water (Aq. Dest.). Do not use tap
water for rinsing because it might be chlorinated.

Remove the endoscope and all reprocessing equipment from the detergent
solution.
2.
Inspect all reprocessing equipment. If debris remains, ultrasonically clean at
33 – 48 kHz for 5 minutes.
3.
Place all equipment in de-ionized water (Aq. Dest.) and gently agitate them
to thoroughly rinse.
Dry external surfaces
1.
Using a lint-free cloth, gently wipe off and dry the external surfaces of the
endoscope.
2.
Inspect the endoscope for residual debris. Should debris remain, repeat the
procedures given in this Section.
Presoak for excessive bleeding and/or delayed reprocessing
• Follow the steps below only in case of excessive bleeding
and/or delayed reprocessing: unnecessary immersions
should be avoided. Consecutive extended immersions may
damage the endoscope.
• Prevent soaking the endoscope for more than 2 hours.
• Do not coil the insertion tube, the universal cord or the video
cable with a diameter of less than 10 cm. Equipment damage
can result.

Fill a basin with detergent solution at a temperature and concentration
recommended by the detergent manufacturer. Use a basin which is at least
25 (W) × 10 (H) × 50 (D) cm in size and deep enough to allow the
endoscope to be completely immersed.
2.
Carefully coil the endoscope’s insertion tube and universal cord, and
completely immerse the endoscope in detergent solution.
