Chapter 7 Cleaning, Disinfection and Sterilization Procedures for Endoscopic Instruments

• Always disconnect the leakage tester connector from the
light source or maintenance unit before detaching the
leakage tester’s connector cap from the venting connector.
Detaching the leakage tester’s connector cap from the
venting connector while the leakage tester is still connected
to the light source will not allow the endoscope to
depressurize properly and may damage the endoscope.
• When attaching the leakage tester’s connector cap to the
venting connector, make sure that the inside of the leakage
tester’s connector cap and the outside of the venting
connector are thoroughly dry. Water remaining on either
component could cause endoscope malfunction.
When the leakage tester connector (WA23070A, MB-155) is
in place, the covering of the bending section will expand as
the air pressure inside the endoscope increases. This is
normal.
Leakage testing with hand pump (WA23070A)
• Always dry the leakage tester thoroughly. Any water
remaining on the leakage tester may cause damage to the
endoscope.
• Before detaching the leakage tester’s adapter from the
venting connector, open the pressure release lever.
Neglecting to do so may damage the endoscope.
• Only the leakage tester’s tubing and adapter may be
immersed. Other parts of the leakage tester could be
damaged if immersed.
• The leakage test pressure must not exceed 27 kPa (e.g. the
pointer should remain within the ‘green area’ on the pressure
display). If the pressure increases so that the pointer moves
into the red area of the display, the endoscope may be
damaged (see Figure 7.7).
