Problem Cause Action
The stimulating probe
fails to stimulate, but

Pre-Amplifier
Replaced
The pre-amplifier has been
replaced mid-surgery for one
of a lower capacity.
See "4.8 Reconfiguring Channels" on page
54.
Silence/ Lack of sound.
Sound is muted Increase the main volume by rotating the
master volume dial clockwise.
Check the individual channel volume is
not muted or too low by looking for the
channel volume in the top right of each
channel window (see page 46). Press
the channel volume and use the slider to
increase.
Silence when stimulating;
the device has not detected
any voltage in the muscle,
the muscle has not
contracted.
The muscle may not contract
for a variety of reasons;
the nerve may not be
stimulated, the nerve may
be damaged or transected,
or any neuromuscular block
may be too deep.
The surgeon in charge should decide
whether or not to proceed with the
procedure taking the possible causes into
consideration.
Monitor failure. If you feel the silence is an indication of
a monitoring failure please contact your
service provider (page ii).
Waveforms are too
large and cannot be
clearly seen.
Amplitude scale is set too
low.
Increase amplitude scale (see "i. Channel
Windows" on page 46).
Waveforms appear
and immediately
disappear
Waveform threshold is set
too low.
