2. Locate and remove the memory module. Open the retaining clips and gently pull the memory module
out of the memory slot.

3. If you are instructed to return the old memory module, follow all packaging instructions and use any
packaging materials that are supplied to you for shipping.

Installing the memory module
Note: The memory modules are extremely sensitive to ESD. Ensure that you read and understand “Handling
static-sensitive devices” on page 46 first and carefully perform the operation.
To install a memory module, do the following:
1. Prepare your server. See “Preparing your server in advance” on page 47.
2. Locate an appropriate memory slot on the system board by referring to the memory module installation
rules in “Memory module” on page 53. If a filler is installed in the slot, remove the filler.
3. Touch the static-protective package that contains the new memory module to any unpainted surface on
the outside of the server. Then, take the new memory module out of the package.
Note: Carefully handle the memory module by its edges.
4. Open the retaining clips and install the memory module into the slot until the retaining clips are
completely closed.
