• Lenovo ThinkServer RAID 500 upgrade key (requires the Lenovo ThinkServer RAID 500 PCIe Adapter)
• Lenovo ThinkServer RAID 520i upgrade key (requires the Lenovo ThinkServer RAID 520i PCIe Adapter)

As a result, the capability of the installed ThinkServer RAID adapters is expanded. You can purchase a RAID
upgrade key from Lenovo at:

Note:

The illustrations in this topic show how to install and remove the RAID 500 upgrade key. The

procedure of installing and removing the RAID 520i upgrade key is similar.

Installing the RAID 500 or 520i upgrade key

Before you begin, print all the related instructions or ensure that you can view the PDF version on another
computer for reference.

Note:

Use any documentation that comes with the RAID upgrade key and follow those instructions in

addition to the instructions in this topic.

To install the RAID 500 or 520i upgrade key, do the following:

1. Remove all external media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the server. Then,

disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to
the server.

2. Prepare your server. See

“Removing or extending the server from the rack cabinet” on page 57.

3. Remove the server cover. See

“Removing the server cover” on page 57.

4. Locate the ThinkServer RAID adapter. Then, disconnect any cables from the adapter.

5. Touch the static-protective package that contains the RAID upgrade key to any unpainted surface on

the outside of the server. Then, take the RAID upgrade key out of the package.

Note:

Carefully handle the RAID upgrade key by its edges.
