3.5-inch backplane replacement
Use the following information to remove and install the 3.5-inch backplane.

Use this information to remove the 3.5-inch drive backplane.
About this task
Attention:
• Read the following section(s) to ensure that you work safely.

• Power off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables. See
“Power off the server” on page 11 .
• If the server is installed in a rack, remove the server from the rack.

Procedure
Step 1. Make preparations for this task.
a. Remove all drives and drive fillers from the drive bays. See “Remove a hot-swap drive” on
page 72 .
b. Remove the top cover. See “Remove the top cover” on page 132 .
c. Disconnect the cables from the backplane. See “Backplane and backplate cable routing” on
page 41 .
Step 2. Remove the backplane.
a. Open the retaining clips by rotating them up.
b. Rotate the backplane down towards the center of the server.
c. Lift the backplane out of the server.
