Night Setback Example
In Figure 55 above, night setback will take place from 10:00 p.m.
(22:00) until 6:00 a.m.
Nighttime space temperature will be maintained at 78°F during the
cooling season and 65°F during the heating season to save energy.
During the heating season, auxiliary heat will also be available if the
space temperature drops below 50°F.
When the outside temperature drops below 40°F, warmup will be
activated, and night setback will end at 5:30 a.m. - 30 minutes before
the end of the normal night setback time (the daytime setpoint will
become active 30 minutes early).
If the outside temperature drops down to 15°F or colder, warmup will
be activated and night setback will end at 5:00 a.m. - 60 minutes
before the end of the normal night setback time.
If the outside temperature is between 15° and 30°F, warmup will begin
sometime between 5:00 and 5:30 a.m. The closer the outside
temperature is to 15°F, the earlier warmup will begin.
Night setback is used to save energy, because it allows for higher
setpoints during the cooling season and lower setpoints during the
heating season while the space is unoccupied (typically at night).
During the heating season, if it is very cold outside, the indoor
temperature may take longer to stabilize at the daytime temperature.
The warmup setup allows the daytime heating setpoints to call for
heating earlier based on outdoor temperatures.
