Steering Fault: 7380
1.
Fault: Loss of steering/traction with 7380 fault. Note
that the steering input device is also known as the
LORD device.
2.
Possible root cause(s) and troubleshooting
procedure:
a.
Lack of 5VDC reference signal voltage from SCU
– 7380 will occur as soon as key switch is
activated.
i.
Measure VDC at J65-pin3 using J65-pin4 as
ground at SCU. A 0VDC indicates a bad
SCU. Low voltage (less than 4.5VDC)
indicates a problem downstream. Proceed to
Step 2.b.
b.
A component in the steering circuit causing
voltage drop in the reference circuit.
i.
Measure VDC at J65-pin3 using J65-pin4 as
ground at SCU.
1.
If voltage is less than 4.5VDC,
disconnect the steering motor. If voltage
increases to approximately 5VDC,
problem is in the steering motor.
2.
If voltage remains low, disconnect True
Position Sensor (TPS). If voltage
increases to approximately 5VDC,
problem is in the TPS.
3.
If voltage remains low, disconnect
steering input device. If voltage
increases to approximately 5VDC,
problem is in the steering input device.
c.
Reference signal voltage not reaching steering
input device or steering input device is faulty –
7380 will occur only when steering wheel is
cycled left and right.
i.
Measure VDC at J56-pin1 using J56-pin4 as
ground at steering input device. If
approximately 5VDC is present, steering
input device is faulty.
3.
Fixes:
Verify ground mod has been completed before
replacing components as a faulty component
could damage SCU reference generator.
a.
For issue 2.a: Replace SCU. If issue is corrected,
reinstall old SCU to verify fault returns.
b.
For issue 2.b: Replace only the component
causing the voltage drop. If issue is corrected,
reinstall old component to verify fault returns.
c.
For issue 2.c: Replace steering input device. If
issue is corrected, reinstall old steering input
device to verify fault returns.
4.
If unit still does not operate after performing all the
above procedures, please contact Technical Support
immediately.
Steering Fault: 6211 - Both TPS and
Proximity Versions
1.
Fault: Loss of steering or traction with 6211 fault.
2.
Possible root cause(s) and troubleshooting
procedure:
a.
Loose chain, motor sprocket or yoke sprocket
i.
Visually inspect chain tension and sprocket
alignment.
ii.
Ensure set screws in sprockets are tight.
b.
b. Faulty signal from TPS to SCU.
i.
Measure approximately 5VDC at J110-pin1
using J110-pin3 as ground. Key switch must
be ON. If no voltage or less than 4.5VDC,
refer to Page 6 “Steering Fault: 7380” Step 2
troubleshooting. Test unplugged and
plugged to verify voltage does not change
significantly
ii.
Measure approximately 2.5VDC at J110-pin2
using J110-pin3 as ground, with steering
wheel centered. Key switch must be ON.
1.
If voltage is at 0VDC, TPS is faulty.
2.
If voltage is anything other than 0VDC,
check magnet is secured and adjust TPS
to achieve 2.5VDC.
c.
Faulty signal from proximity switches to SCU.
i.
Visually inspect both proximity switches LED
is ON with key switch ON. If LED is off, go to
step ii.
ii.
Measure approximately 48VDC at J57-pin B
and J57-pin A as ground. Key switch must be
ON.
1.
If voltage is at 0VDC, power is not
reaching switches from PDU.
2.
If voltage is approximately 48VDC, clean
proximity switch face and both
connectors. Note that each proximity
switch has two connectors.
•
If LED is still OFF, replace proximity switch.
3.
Fixes:
a.
For issue 2.a: Adjust chain and tighten set
screws on sprockets.
b.
For issue 2.b.i: Refer to Page 6 “Steering Fault:
7380” Step 2 troubleshooting.
c.
For issue 2.b.ii.1: Replace TPS. If issue is
corrected, reinstall old TPS to verify fault returns.
d.
For issue 2.b.ii.2: Tighten magnet and adjust
TPS per service manual.
