In case of failure of the acoustic system, an emergency mechanical releasing system can
be actuated by using the manipulator of a ROV. Two handles are provided to trigger this
manual releasing system. These handles are located on each side of the main chassis of
the HD-55 unit and the operator can get access from outside of the frame.
III.5.2.1 Description

A handle (9103086) is held in standby position by a locking pin (9102729) made of PVC
material.
Mechanical releasing is achieved after 180° rotation (clockwise) of one of the two handles.
This handle, actuated by the ROV in the direction of the arrow indication (clockwise),
situated on the frame, will break the plastic ROV handle locking pin (9102729) - torque =
2.5 mdaN - after a first quarter turn (90° clockwise), and drives the mechanical releasing
axis (9103085) during the second quarter turn (90° clockwise).
The two supporting flange (9102709) then rock around the axis (910 2977), thus driving
the fork-shaped lever (9102893), which comes out from the fork locking pin (9101550).
Mechanical release is initiated. The lever (9102981) and the hook (9103084) are now free
to rotate.
Pulling the wire rope connecting the ship to the FSR heavy duty unit will allow the hook to
open which will make the ring free (a force of 1,000 daN is normally sufficient with a hook
coated with grease).
III.5.2.2 Re-arming the back-up ROV system
Once the back-up ROV mechanism has been operated, the plastic ROV handle locking
pin must be changed and the ROV backup mechanism must be re-armed as follows:
