Chapter 8 Configuration & Management
You can use SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) for
remotely monitoring and configuring of the EasyLAN 100i. All
major functions for print servers are supported.
General Information SNMP refers to a set of standards for network
management, including a protocol, a database structure specifica-
tion, and a set of data objects. The EasyLAN 100i SNMP imple-
mentation runs in the TCP/IP environment.
The management is handled by NMS (Network Management Sys-
tem) software running on a host on your network. The NMS soft-
ware communicates with network devices by the means of mes-
sages, which are references to one or more objects.
A message can be a question or an instruction to a device, or an
alarm triggered by a specific event in a device. Objects are con-
tained in data bases called MIBs (Management Information Base),
where MIB-II is a standard database.
The EasyLAN 100i supports all relevant parts of MIB-II and also
includes private AXIS and Intermec MIBs.
System Requirements for SNMP
The following requirements must be fulfilled in order to make full
use of the EasyLAN 100i SNMP support:
• NMS software that allows you to install private enterprise MIBs.
• A host, supporting FTP, on which to run the NMS software.
Adding AXIS and Intermec MIBs to NMS Software
1. Log in to the EasyLAN 100i using FTP.
2. Download the AXIS MIB fileto the NMS host.
snmp/intermec.mib
Printserver items.
3. Copy the Intermec MIB files from the CD-ROM that came with
the EasyLAN 100i interface board to the NMS host.
intermec.mib

media, memory, print mechanism etc.
prtitp.mib

4. Install the MIBs according to instructions in your NMS software
documentation. For technical details, you can view a MIB file
with any text editor.
