Show Signal/Noise Shows Signal to Noise ratio. A
background must be selected using
Background Subtract first. Refer to
Background Subtract [ } 251].
Subtract Current Spectrum Subtracts the spectrum at the point where
the green scan cursor is located from the
range.
13.9 Displaying Reconstructed Ion Chromatograms
(RIC)
RIC plots are used to locate specific compounds in a chromatogram. A RIC plot of the
top three or more mass fragments can help locate the peak of interest. Follow the
instructions below to create a RIC plot.
The NIST program
uses the term peak
instead of mass
fragment. However,
the terms are
synonymous.
Alternately, double-clicking on a mass in the Scan window will automatically insert the
selected mass in the Control Panel table and display the RIC for the selected mass.
When the box in the Control Panel labeled -RIC is checked, the TIC/RIC window
displays the TIC minus the RIC selected.
1 Either from the System Setup screen or the Data Review screen, double-click
on the NIST icon.
2 Click on the Names tab at the bottom of the NIST screen.
3 Enter the name of the compound in the box on the top left of the screen. (i.e.,
benzene).
4 In the bottom right box, the 10 Largest Peaks is listed. Make a note of the
three largest mass peaks that are between 45-300 amu.
