ipc1-im8130 Administrator’s Guide

Peer to Peer Printing

Considerations and Limitations

You cannot assign the controller to a Microsoft domain; it can

participate only in a Microsoft workgroup.

The controller device name must be unique within the network. The

device name is also required in order to update the controller software

using Printer Utility.

Prerequisites

Determine a unique device name (also known as the

host name

Microsoft

computer

name) for the controller. By default, the device

name is

GL<MAC Address>

, where

<MAC Address>

is the media

access control (MAC) number of the NIC installed in the controller.

You can change the device name, providing it is unique within the

network.

Pick a workgroup name for the device or accept the default name,

WORKGROUP

Configuring Microsoft Peer to Peer Printing

Launch your web browser. Open Printer Utility using the IP address

of the controller you want to configure. (Refer to

Opening Printer

Utility

on page 56.)

Note: You can find the IP address through ipc1 Document Monitor.

Click the Administration tab.

Click the Setup submenu.

Click the

Print Services

link.

In the Microsoft Printing group box, make sure Microsoft printing is

Enabled

(default).

In the

Microsoft Name

field, enter the controller device name.

In the

Workgroup

field, enter the name of the workgroup to which the

controller belongs. The name is

WORKGROUP

by default, but you can

change it.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click

Save
