Mounting a
Reflection Copy
Balance Point

For reflection copy originals the scanner needs a
source of reflected white light to use for balancing its
analysis system. A small piece of reference white
paper about 1

1

/

2

cm square is recommended for this

purpose. The first step of a reflection copy
greyscale is suitable. Other material which appears
to be white should be treated with caution as there
may well be a colour bias present which will result in
an incorrect balance.

When using the flexible insert to hold originals, the
reference white can be mounted in the insert in a
similar way to the original.

Once you have chosen the position for the
reference white you should always use exactly the
same place. This point can then be used by
Scan

Xact

time and time again as the default balance

point for reflection copy scanning.

Remember that the reference white will gradually
discolour when exposed to light. For this reason you
should change it regularly. Once a week is
recommended.
