components are customer replaceable units (CRU) and which components are field replaceable units
(FRU).

If an action step is preceded by “(Trained service technician only),” that step must be performed only by a
trained service technician.

Microprocessor error.
1. Reseat microprocessor/memory cards. See “Removing a
microprocessor/memory card” on page 51 and “Replacing
a microprocessor/memory card” on page 51.
2. (Trained service technician only) Remove microprocessor
2 and its VRM and restart the server. See “Removing a
microprocessor/memory card” on page 51 and “Replacing
a microprocessor/memory card” on page 51.

If no beep code occurs, microprocessor 2 might have
failed; replace the microprocessor. See “Removing a
microprocessor/memory card” on page 51 and
“Replacing a microprocessor/memory card” on page 51.

If the beep code remains, remove microprocessor 1 and
install microprocessor 2 in the connector for
microprocessor 1; then, restart the server. If no beep
code occurs, microprocessor 1 might have failed;
replace the microprocessor. See “Removing a
microprocessor/memory card” on page 51 and
“Replacing a microprocessor/memory card” on page 51.
3. Replace the following components one at a time, in the
order shown, restarting the server each time:
a. Microprocessor/memory card 1, 2, 3; then, 4. See
“Removing a microprocessor/memory card” on page
51 and “Replacing a microprocessor/memory card” on
page 51.
b. (Trained service technician only) I/O board. See
“Removing the I/O board assembly” on page 68 and
“Replacing the I/O board assembly” on page 69.
Repeating

Keyboard error.
1. Make sure that nothing is resting on the keyboard.
2. Reseat the keyboard cable.
3. Replace the following components one at a time, in the
order shown, restarting the server each time:
a. Keyboard
b. (Trained service technician only) I/O board. See
“Removing the I/O board assembly” on page 68 and
“Replacing the I/O board assembly” on page 69.
