Installing hard drives in the enclosures

After the storage enclosures are secured in the rack, install hard drives into the drive bays. For installation

instructions, see the documents shipped with the hard drive or enclosure.
Be sure to record information about the hard drives and their con

guration (

Array and unit information

Target information

, and

Initiator access information

For a list of the hard drives that are supported for use with the MSA1510i and your storage enclosure,

read the

MSA1510i compatibility guide

, located on the Manuals page of the MSA1510i support website:

CAUTION:
•

Follow industry-standard practices when handling hard drives. Internal storage media can be

damaged when drives are shaken, dropped, or roughly placed on a work surface.

•

When installing a hard drive, make sure the drive is fully seated in the drive bay.

•

When removing a hard drive, press the release button and pull the drive only slightly out of the

enclosure. Then, to allow time for the internal disk to stop rotating, wait approximately 10 seconds

before completely removing the drive from the enclosure.

NOTE:

HP recommends installing hard drives in bay-number sequence. Locate this and additional installation

information in the documentation shipped with the storage enclosure.
