Installing an Operating System
To install an operating system on a new or previously unconfigured server, you must
configure the server with the RBSU.
To configure the server for the first time:
1.
Install all of the selected hardware options. Refer to Chapter 5, “Installing
Hardware Options,” for detailed instructions.
2.
Power up the server.
3.
Press the
F9
key to launch RBSU.
4.
When prompted, select a language.
5.
Select the operating system you want to install on the server. The
ProLiant DL580 Generation 2 server supports the following operating systems:
— Microsoft Windows NT and Windows 2000
— Linux
— Novell NetWare
— Sun Solaris Intel Platform Edition
A dialog box displays, indicating that the system configuration is complete.
6.
Select the memory protection you have chosen for the server.
7.
Press the
F10
key to exit RBSU or press any other key to return to the RBSU
main menu.
8.
After RBSU configures the hardware for the first time, use ProLiant Essentials to
install an operating system.
a.
Insert the ProLiant Essentials Foundation Pack or the operating system
installation CD.
b.
Restart the server.
c.
Follow the instructions provided by ProLiant Essentials Foundation Pack
software or the operating system manufacturer.
