7. Clamp the clevis end of the cylinder barrel in a soft
jawed vice and apply hydraulic oil to the cylinder
bore and piston (see below).
8. Enter the piston and gland bearing into the cylinder
barrel taking care not to nick the seals (see below).
NOTE: For Crowd cylinder retainer ring assembly see
next page.
9. When the gland bearing is fully in the bore of the
cylinder replace the gland retainer and tighten with
a “C” wrench (see below).
Final Check
If available connect the cylinder to a test stand and
stroke the cylinder in and out several times checking for
smoothness of operation after the air has been purged
from the cylinder.
Fully retract the cylinder and raise the pressure to 210
bar. (3000 psi) checking for leaks at the rod end of the
cylinder. Then fully extend the cylinder, again raising
the pressure to 210 bar (3000 psi). Check the rear
welded connection for signs of leaks.
Crowd Cylinder Retainer Disassembly
1. Clamp the rear clevis end of the cylinder in a soft
jawed vice. Do not clamp on the cylinder barrel.
Then using a “C” peg type wrench to rotate the
gland and the retaining ring clockwise until the end
of the retaining ring is visible at the retaining ring
access window (see below).
2. Use a narrow blade screwdriver or similar to pick-
up the end of the retaining ring and to form a
“ramp” for the ring removal through the access
window (see below).
