6.3 PUMP TO COUPLING REASSEMBLY
To reassemble the pump to the coupling, reverse the
previous steps. When reassembling the pump and cou-
pling to the engine, the following checks and measure-
ments must be carried out:
Check Key Fit
Insert key into shaft and check side clearance(0.000” to
0.003” max.) with feelers. Scribe a line on the side of
the key as shown (see below). Remove the key from
the shaft and insert the coupling portion of the key into
the coupling keyway. The scribed line must NOT be vis-
ible. If it is, check key height and depth of keyways. The
key corners must not cut into the fillet of the keyway.
Check side clearance in coupling.
Coupling Engagement Measurements
1. Measure and record the dimension “A” i.e. the
distance from the pump half coupling “rim” (see
figure 2 page 61) to the recessed face of the bell
housing. Typically Dim “A” will be in the order of
90 mm (3.54”) (see below).
2. Measure “B” DIM, i.e. the distance from the engine
half coupling rim to the machined mounting face of
the engine, it must be a minimum of 3 mm. (0.125”)
less than the “A” DIM. For example, if “A” DIM. is
say 90 mm., then “B” DIM must not exceed 87 mm.
When correct, tighten the set screw and check “B”
DIM again (see below).
