Appendix K: Maintenance
A periodic full system check, depending on the local standards, together with or by a
certified company, should be performed. The status of the system is mostly affected by the
environmental conditions wherein it is located. Maintenance shall include a complete re-test
of all functionality to ensure that the entire system is maintained to its original specification.
Below overview shows the minimum instructions for maintenance/prevention-check of the
system:
• Note date, time & responsible person for maintenance in the log book.
• Check if the system design drawings are available.
• Check the log book for any failure reports: if unsolved failures exist, first proceed with the
following steps.
• Perform a visual inspection of the system and all installed loudspeakers:
° make sure all components and loudspeakers are installed and mounted according to their
installation instructions.
° If it turns out re-construction/modeling of rooms has taken place, make sure to re-measure
SPL and STI according to the local system requirements. If these are not met, it may be
required to re-locate and/or add loudspeakers to the room(s).
• Clean the rack and mounted components:
° remove all dust inside the rack and components
° clean dust filters from all components and racks fans; replace with new filters if needed
° check operation of fans & thermostats – replace if not operating
• Check power sources:
° make sure the primary and secondary power sources are available and are within the
specified operating range of the different components
° test all circuit breakers – replace if not operating
° check the log book for the date of installation of the batteries; if the life cycle of batteries is
not exceeded yet, check battery charger status.
Note:
refer to the battery supplier for life cycle/replacement specifications. Batteries must
be replaced with the exact same capacity, for more information see eXentro C48 Charger
manual.
• Clear the error log file of eXentro ECU; if failures re-occur, make sure to check the system and
solve found errors first. All faulty components should be replaced – return faulty components to
the manufacturer for service.
Make notes of the components returned for service and of the (part of the) functionality of
the system which remains faulty (for alarm zones: make a note of these if they are put in
test mode), especially for those faulty parts which cannot be replaced or solved immediately;
include an action plan to solve these issues.
• Clear error log file again and note date & time in the log book.
• Re-test complete functionality of the system; if operating according to specification and
no new errors appear, make a note in the log book. If during the re-test errors have been
generated on purpose: make sure to clear the error log file again before leaving.
• Provide a signed maintenance report to customer and schedule next appointment.
As the Voice Alarm system design & specifications differ for each project, further maintenance
procedures shall be prepared by the responsible installer using the provided information from the
manufacturer and/or system designer. In some countries normative requirements for service and
maintenance of Voice Alarm systems exist; include these local requirements when applicable.
