A broadcast/multicast address is normally not present in the Ethernet frame‟s SA field, however,
such frame may be generated by a test gear or it may occur due to a network fault. Although
both “LAN” and “WAN” MAC tables would learn a multicast SA address (the “WAN” table would
also learn a broadcast SA address) which would eventually age out, that does not affect normal
operation because both multicast and broadcast frames are always broadcast (see Routing
column). Note that multicast/broadcast addresses may also be accidentally entered as static
MACs.
