c. Provide a roof or shed to protect pump from direct sunlight and other elemental hazards.
2. Every 6 months, in addition to the requirements listed under step 3. above:
a. If lube oil and seal piping and seal housing were previously filled with oil, drain and refill
lube oil and seal flush piping with vapor-phase inhibiting oil, and inject oil through flush
connections onto mechanical seal faces.
2.2.2 ROTOR PRESERVATIVE STANDARDS
1. Rotors and complete internal assemblies are fully coated with a petroleum-based rust
preventative.
2. Each assembly is secured in a wood box that is lined with plastic to form a vapor barrier
envelope.
3. A 2 lb. (1 kg) bag of vapor-phase inhibiting crystals is placed near the center of the assembly.
4. The assembly is supported under its outside diameter on wood cradles placed inside the
plastic lining.
CAUTION
The internal assembly or rotor should never be supported or
lifted at the journals.
2.2.2.1 Rotor Storage
Factory preservative measures will protect rotors and complete internal assemblies for up to 3 years
under indoor storage conditions.
2.2.3 DEPRESERVING
NOTE
It is recommended that an Flowserve service representative
be employed to inspect any equipment stored for more than
12 months.
1. Clean petroleum-based preservative from all parts of pump by using a petroleum-based
solvent such as kerosene or naphtha.
2. Depreserve bearing housings by performing the following:
a. Drain vapor-phase inhibiting oil from bearing housings and lube oil piping.
b. Remove bearings from housings.
c. Flush bearing housings and piping with clean lube oil and drain.
d. Clean and reinstall bearings.
3. Drain vapor-phase inhibiting oil from the mechanical seals and seal flush piping, then flush
mechanical seals and seal flush piping with appropriate fluid until clean.
