5 Design, system overview and function

The Big Sonic-Ski

again takes up the principle of mean

value formation familiar from the Sonic-Ski

plus.

To achieve this, three sensors (e.g. 3x Sonic-Ski

plus)

are typically distributed over the length of the vehicle - or
even beyond it with the assistance of a corresponding
mechanical system.
In exceptional cases, mean value formation can also be
carried out using just two sensors (e.g. Sonic-Ski

plus at

the front and rear).

Once small areas of unevenness and foreign bodies have
been neutralised by the mean value formed by each
individual Sonic-Ski

plus, the Big Sonic-Ski

set-up now

additionally determines and reduces undulations and
small, elongated differences in height in the ground's
longitudinal profile.
