Local wiring regulations always take precedence.
* European wire sizes are based on EN60204-1 (1993) for PVC single-core cable bunched or
in trunking given a 70
ºC maximum conductor temperature under normal conditions in a 45ºC
ambient.
North American wire sizes are based on NEC/NFPA-70 for ampacities of thermoplastic-
insulated (60ºC) copper conductors assuming not more than three current-carrying conductors in
raceway or cable, based on ambient temperature of 30ºC. The wire sizes allow for an ampacity
of 125% of the rated input and output amperes for motor branch-circuit conductors as specified
in NEC/NFPA-70.
