2.8.8 Fuser Control
2.8.8.1 Fuser Temperature Control
A target temperature is set, and the Fuser Temperature Control turns ON/OFF
the HEATER LAMP to constantly keep the temperature of the HEAT ROLL
surface at the target temperature.
The temperature of the HEAT ROLL surface is detected by the TEMP
SENSOR. The TEMP SENSOR detects the temperature for a period of 40ms,
activated alternately with disconnection that is controlled by observance of the
resistance value. In this way, the temperature detection cycle is 80ms, and
when the temperature is found to be above the target temperature, the
HEATER LAMP is turned OFF, and when the temperature is found to be below
the target temperature, the HEATER LAMP is turned ON.
The set temperature targets are different according printer status, such as
when it is inactive, printing, or executing the print process. In addition, the
target temperature changes according to the internal printer temperature
detected by SENSOR HUM TEMP (PL4.2.4) (temperature and humidity
sensor), by the print volume, by the Print Mode, and by the power source input
voltage.
2.8.8.2 COOL DOWN
When printing jobs are intermittent, heat distribution on the HEAT ROLL
becomes uneven because of paper conveyance and paper stopping
components. To keep the HEAT ROLL temperature as even as possible,
HEATER LAMP activation wait times are established. This is the COOL DOWN
function.
COOL DOWN is only activated during a series of pages printed in a certain
class/size or for an amount of time determined by the number of pages printed
in the series when such a print job has been completed.
In addition, COOL DOWN will activate midway through a print job of several
hundred pages even when the paper class/size is changed.
PPM DOWN (Pages Per Minute Down) is a simplification of COOL DOWN.
This technique also seeks to improve even temperature distribution on the
HEAT ROLL, and it accomplishes this by establishing non-loaded rotation time
for the FUSER when paper is not being conveyed between prints.
When a series print job at a certain paper class/size is being done, page
intervals are opened after a set number of pages, and because the number of
pages output in one minute is reduced, this method is called PPM DOWN.
PPM DOWN is activated on the basis of paper size or paper class.
