NOTICE
Danger of corrosion in the cooling water circuit! When selecting the recirculating chiller
make sure that no base metals are used in components carrying water. Base metals also
increase the conductivity of the cooling water.
The system must be filled with cooling water that has been mixed with a cooling water
additive to be obtained from Analytik Jena AG. The preparation of the cooling water has
been described in the section "Maintenance of the recirculating chiller" p. 68. The cool-
ant additive prevents damage to the PlasmaQuant PQ 9000 potentially resulting from
corrosion and biological contamination. Damage to the device due to operation without
coolant additive is excluded from the warranty!
For night-time and constant operation the recirculating chiller can be controlled via the
PlasmaQuant PQ 9000. Analytik Jena AG supplies a matching communication cable with
the recirculating chiller. The cable connects the RS 232 connection "Chiller remote" on
the left-hand side of the PlasmaQuant PQ 9000 (6 in Figure 10 p. 29) to the interface
on the right-hand side of the chiller. The chiller is then switched on and off automati-
cally as the plasma ignites and goes out.

Device layout and space requirements
The PlasmaQuant PQ 9000 is a compact device conceived for table-top operation. The
space required is a function of all components needed for the measurement.
The autosampler is installed next to the base instrument. Additional space may be re-
quired for a PC and possibly a printer. The PC and printer may also be placed on a sepa-
rate table.
The workbench must meet the following requirements:
The dimensions of the workbench for the PlasmaQuant PQ 9000 and the au-
tosampler must be at least 1800 mm x 750 mm. For unimpeded access to the supply
and control connections leave a minimum distance of 30 cm between the rear side of
the PlasmaQuant PQ 9000 and the next wall or use a heavy lift roll-top table. The
height should be chosen according to ergonomic aspects.
The workbench must be capable of bearing a load of at least 200 kg.
The workbench surface must be wipe, scrape and corrosion resistant and must not
absorb moisture.
The workbench must be freely accessible from all sides.
For unimpeded cooling air circulation and effective cooling, the surfaces of the housing
sides of the water-air cooler require a minimum distance of 60 cm from adjacent ob-
jects. Due to the dissipated heat from the recirculating chiller and possible noise it
should be placed outside the laboratory. An extension of the cooling water tubes is per-
mitted if the minimum pressure and the flow volume are maintained.
A 2-litre polyethylene laboratory bottle with a screw cap is recommended as a waste
bottle.
