6.2.2 

Cartridge Head Height Adjusting Procedure 

 

Adjustment of the Cartridge head heights is performed using the three 
screws on the back of the Y-Arm which attach the Stabilizer Bracket to 
the Y-Arm.  See Chapter 5, Figure 5.23 for identification of these 
screws.  

Do not loosen all three screws at the same time.

  The 

sequence of adjustment must be followed as described below: 

 

a. 

loosen, adjust, and tighten the left screw 

 

b. 

loosen, adjust, and tighten the center screw 

 

c. 

loosen, adjust, and tighten the right screw. 

1.  Move the gauge to the left position.  Loosen the left screw.  

Moving the screw head up/down will move the Stabilizer Bracket 
up/down until it is at the required height.  Check the counter's 
display while adjusting.  Look at the  Calibration Worksheet and 
find the shaft height at the left position.  Go to Table Chapter 6 .1 
above and find the Carriage height value associated with that shaft 
height.  Once the required height is selected and adjusted to, 
tighten the screw gently. 

2.  Move the gauge and park it in the center position.  Loosen the 

center screw, select the height from the chart in  Table Chapter 6 
.1, and adjust the center screw.  Tighten the screw gently. 

3.  Move the gauge and park it in the right position.  Loosen the right 

screw, select the height from the chart in Table Chapter 6 .1, and 
adjust the right screw.  Tighten the screw gently. 

4.  Tighten all screws and torque the three screws to 8 in.-lbs. 

 

WARNING

 

Use extreme care to make sure that the Carriage does not scratch 
the Code

 

Strip (Encoder Strip) during this procedure. 

NOTE

 

Note:  1.  Tightening of the screws will change the reading on the 

display.  When adjusting, always allow for a change in the 
height of up to .002". 

 

2.  Do not adjust the screws out of sequence.  If you find that a 

screw has to be readjusted, the adjusting procedure must be 
repeated from Step 1 of Section 6.2.2.
