SECTION 6
OPERATION TROUBLESHOOTING
Refer to this section for suggested corrections to operating problems.
6.1
WATER TEMPERATURE
The most important factor for obtaining clean,
dry product under most conditions is water
temperature. The water temperature must always
be maintained between 60 - 71 oC (140 - 160
OF) to assure the cleanliest PWA possible.
6.2
WATER CLEANLINESS
The cleaner the water being introduced into a
product within any aqueous cleaning process, the
lower the contaminant level. It is recommended
that the operator or Q.C. inspector verify the
quality level of the water at predetermined
intervals.
6.3
PROCESS CHEMISTRY
Depending on the chemicals and materials applied
during the processing of your product, such as
flux and solder paste, varying concentrations of
saponifier or neutralizers may be required in the
Wash section. The Optional Automatic Detergent
Injection system may require adjustment for
maintaining proper concentration levels. Too high
or too low of a concentration will directly affect
cleanliness levels.
6.4
WATER PRESSURE
The amount of water pressure applied to a
product being cleaned determines the complete
removal of flux residues as well as other
contaminants which may be present or entrapped
under components.
6.5
CONVEYOR SPEED
Conveyor speed affects nearly all other aspects
of the aqueous cleaning process. Slower speeds
provide longer dwell times in the Wash and Rinse
sections, assuring a cleaner product. Slower
speeds also allow a longer drying period.
6.6
COMPONENT
TEMPERATURE
The temperature of the product and its
components is important to the cleaning process
prior to aqueous cleaning. It is best to clean the
product while it is still hot from the Wave/ Reflow
Soldering system.
6.7
SPRAY NOZZLE ANGLE
The angle of the spray nozzle in relation to the
horizontal conveyor is pertinent to the cleaning
of various types of components on any printed
wiring assembly. High velocity spray at sharper
angles flushes and cleans on, under, and around
different configurations. It may or may not be
necessary to change these angles for different
products.
6.8
BLOWER AIRKNIVES
The height of the upper blower airknives are
adjustable. These adjustment are critical for the
removal of any moisture on the board prior to
entering the dryer sections.
6.9
DRYER TEMPERATURE
Precise control of radiant heater temperature in
the 2nd dryer module enhances the ability to dry
surface mounted components of most circuit
board configurations, which may have water
droplets trapped underneath.
