Section 7: Contact Insertion Instructions (Excluding Single Pole)
1. Insert
2. Contact
3. Insertion Tool
1.
Locate the conductor and related contact.
2.
Insert conductor into the opened termination side
of the contact.
3.
Tighten screw to torque value shown in Table 12.
4.
Repeat for all contacts.
Section 8: Crimping Instructions for Single Pole Contacts
1.
Prepare cable, cutting to length as needed.
2.
Strip outer jacket to length per Table 7.
3.
Install correct die per Table 10 into crimping tool based
on pin size.
4.
Place stripped end of conductor into contact socket;
verify that between 1 and 3 mm of bare copper is
exposed between end of contact and insulation.
5. Place contact with wire into crimping tool, aligning
die faces with 1st set (see picture) of alignment
marks.
6. Operate tool until the contact is crimped and tool
releases.
7. Move crimped contact to 2nd set (see picture) of
alignment marks and repeat Step 6.
1st Set Alignment Marks
2nd Set Alignment Marks
*Follow crimp tool instructions from tool manual.
Section 9: Potting Instructions
A. Preparing Parts
1.
Ensure connector internals and conductors are free of
dirt, debris and grease/oil.
B. Compound Selection
1.
For field or factory (controlled environment) installation,
Chico
®
LiquidSeal may be used. Storage temperature
and expiration dates are found on each individual
package (75 mL/400 mL).
2.
For factory (controlled environment) installation only,
Epoxies Etc. Flame Retardant Epoxy Resin may be
used.
a. Part 1 Resin Trade Name: 50-3150 FR
b. Part 2 Catalyst Trade Name: Catalyst 190
c. Manufacturer: Epoxies Etc.
d. Black color upon mixing
e. Refer to supplier instructions for storage, mixing
and usage information
f. Inspect epoxy resin for crystallization prior to
mixing
C. Preparing Compound
1.
Chico LiquidSeal (75 mL/400 mL), follow instructions
on package.
2.
For Epoxies Etc. Flame Retardant Epoxy Resin, follow
supplier’s instruction sheets for mixing ratio, mixing
instructions, storage and pouring temperatures, and
information on crystallization/settling.
D. Pouring Compound
1.
Create mating connector set to verify contact
alignment prior to potting.
2.
Align connector set vertically with open end of cable
adapter facing up.
3.
Pour mixed compound into adapter until reaching
the fill depth; refer to potting Tables 2 & 3 for cable
adapter and panel mount adapter. Separate and wiggle
individual conductors to settle compound and fill again
if required.
4.
Maintain assembly in vertical position until compound
has gelled.
5.
Chico LiquidSeal gel and energizing gel (return to
service times are shown in Table 4.
6.
Epoxies Etc. Flame Retardant Epoxy Resin requires 24
hours before installation and energizing.

1.
Locate position No. 1 on back of insert (1).
2.
Take correct numbered contact (2) (see Step 4, Section
6) and insert into position 1, pushing by hand until
feeling resistance. Complete installation by using correct
insertion tool (3) per Table 11 to press contact (2) until
hearing and feeling the contact “click” into place.
3. Repeat Steps 1 & 2 for each location # on the
insert (1). ***Even if a location is not being
used, a blank pin/socket must be inserted to
maintain environmental integrity.
