D64RPBH13 SERIES B1 GROUND FAULT RELAY

Revision 2
September, 2009

Page 5

  Trip Free:

The output circuit breaker is 'trip free', meaning that its contact cannot be held closed against a

fault by manually keeping the toggle in the NORMAL position. Note however that this is only
true when control voltage is present on terminals L+ and N-.

Trip Inhibit:

Contactors are not designed to interrupt high fault currents. Under these conditions the
upstream short circuit protective devices, fuses or circuit breaker, should interrupt the fault.

Trip INHIBIT function can be Enabled or Disabled by means of DIPswitch no. 11. The inhibit
level is related to the ground fault trip level over a range of 200 Amps to 2000 amps when
using the special Eaton’s Cutler-Hammer C311CT zero sequence current transformer with a
turns ratio of 10000:1. With Inhibit Enabled, if the ground fault current exceeds the inhibit level
the output circuit breaker will be inhibited until the ground fault current drops below the inhibit
level. However, should the current fail to drop within 1.2 s, then, as a last resort, the unit will trip
showing the ‘Inhibit Backup Trip’ code on its red LED (2 flashes). It is advisable to replace the
contactor after this event since it was used to break a current possibly well outside its rating.

The inhibit level is related to the ground fault trip level over a range of 10 Amps to 100 amps,
when using the standard family of C311CT zero sequence current transformers with a turns
ratio of 500:1.

With Inhibit Disabled under the same conditions, the output circuit breaker will trip after the
preset trip delay time.

The INHIBIT function is useful when the D64RPBH13 is being used to trip a contactor or motor
starter on a solidly grounded system. In this application, there is no defined limit to the
magnitude of ground fault current should a bolted ground fault occur. By inhibiting the trip it
allows the upstream protective device to clear the fault.

MEMORY AFTER LOSS OF CONTROL VOLTAGE

When control voltage is removed from the D64RPBH13, the LAST TRIP registration will be
memorized (for at least one week). Pressing the Reset pushbutton before restoring control
voltage will light either the green LED or the red LED, green indicating no trip was registered
and red indicating the opposite. The green LED will light continuously, whereas the red LED will
give a sequence of short flashes as described in section 2.4 indicating the cause of trip.

2.2

DIPSWITCH SETTINGS

Refer to the figure on the front page of this manual. There is one 12 - position array of DIPswitches on
the front of the D64RPBH13. The factory setting of all DIPswitches is LEFT (L).

Position 1 - 4:

These four DIPswitches (1, 2, 3, & 4) are assigned to Ground Fault TRIP DELAY settings.

Position 5 - 8:

These five DIPswitches (5, 6, 7, 8, & 9) are assigned to Ground Fault TRIP LEVEL
and TRIP INHIBIT LEVEL settings.

Position 10:

This DIPswitch is reserved for use in the D64RPBH15 relay

Position 11:

This DIPswitch is assigned to TRIP INHIBIT MODE.

Position 12:

This DIPswitch is assigned to Output Circuit Breaker OPERATING MODE.
