FAULT POSSIBLE CAUSE RECOMMENDATION
Failure of unloader valve timer Check and replace as
necessary.
No electrical supply to unloader
solenoid coil. Check and replace as
necessary.
Electrical and/or mechanical failure of
unloader solenoid valve. Check and replace as
necessary.
Lack of pilot air to solenoid valve. Check pipework for blockages.
Air leak on pilot air pipework. Check and rectify as necessary.
Loose diaphragm drain valve
clamping. Check and rectify as necessary.
Punctured drain valve diaphragm. Check and replace as
necessary.
Diaphragm drain valves held open. Check for obstructions at valve
seat.

Compressor runs but fails to
build-up pressure
Failure of First stage suction valves Check for damage/obstruction
and replace parts as necessary.
11.7 Partial or no pressure
on final stage only. Manual valve on separator open.
Leak on high pressure pipework. Check and close as necessary.
Trace and rectify as necessary.
Failure of timed drainage timer to
operate. Check, adjust and replace as
necessary. 11.8
Compressor will not unload
automatically.
Solenoid valve manually overridden. Return valve to automatic
operation mode.
Leak on diaphragm drain valves. Check drain valves for leak tight
operation. (for higher pressure
valves leak will cause 'frosting' of
body and pipe. 11.9
Constant bleed of Air from
diaphragm drain valves.
Leak on high pressure pipework. Trace and rectify as necessary.
Faulty compressor stage valve (s)
and/or valve cover O seals. Check, service, replace valve (s)
as necessary.
Note: Fault usually lies with
suction valve immediately before
stage safety valve operating.
Valve not seating or insufficient
torque for holding down valve. Check condition of seat, tighten
to correct valve cover torque.

Interstage safety valve
blowing
Final stage piston seizure check and replace parts as
necessary.

Final stage safety valve
blowing
Restriction/blockage in pipework from
compressor. Check operation of non-return
valve on compressor outlet,
setting of any line valves,
condition of line filters and
auxiliary equipment.
Pressure switch incorrectly set or
faulty. Check, adjust or replace as
necessary. 11.12
Compressor shut down
before working pressure
reached.
Safety switch operating Identify all safety devices and
"short-out" each in turn to identify
problem switch.
