OPERATION
9.1 ROUTINE STARTING
Before starting, always turn the external handle of the oil pump filter clockwise through one complete
revolution. to clean the microfilter element. Repeat THIS OPERATION EVERY DAY IF THE COMPRESSOR
IS IN CONTINUOUS OPERATION.
Switch power supply ON at isolator. Check that the POWER ON lamp on the display panel is showing
correctly.
Start the compressor and check oil pressure.
Start the cooling water flow through the system. Check flow indicator, if fitted.
Start the compressor and run on load to full pressure until full temperature is reached.
9.2 NORMAL RUNNING
Record the following:
Oil pressure
Air pressure - first stage/ second stage/ third stage
Air temperature - first stage/ second stage/ third stage / final delivery.
Cooling Water inlet and outlet temperatures.
9.3 ROUTINE STOPPING
Press the STOP button
Switch power OFF at isolator
Shut off water supply and close all isolating valves
Close the delivery air isolating valves.
9.4 STARTING UP AFTER PROLONGED SHUTDOWN
Carry out the following before starting a compressor which has been out of operation for more than 6
months:
Ensure the power supply is OFF and no pressurised air has remained in the compression unit or associated
pipework.
Remove all suction and delivery valves and ensure cylinders are free from corrosion.
Remove the crankcase doors and inspect running gear for security and any corrosion.
Prime the pumped oil lubrication system. See STATIC CHECKS Section.
Clean the oil filter by turning the handle one revolution.
Check that the oil level is correct.
Remove and examine the air intake filter. Replace if necessary.
Open the cooling system vent cocks on the first stage cylinder and on the interstage cooler/ separators.
Connect a temporary air supply to the main water control valve to apply air pressure (max. 7 bar g) to hold
the water control valve open whilst filling the compressor water jackets, coolers, etc.
Start the cooling water flow closing each vent cock as an air-free water flow of water emerges.
Turn off temporary air supply, vent all air pressure from the line before removing pipe and reconnecting
original pipe.
Open all manual condensate drains. Start the unit and close these drains when all condensate has been
expelled. The diaphragm drain valves are automatic in operation.
