Fibre Channel Gateway Card
The Cisco SFS 3500 Fibre Channel gateway is a second-generation 4-port, 4 Gbps per-port capable
InfiniBand-to-Fibre Channel gateway module for the Cisco SFS 3504 Server Switch chassis (see
Figure 1-6
). The Fibre Channel ports use SFP modules. The gateway acts as a bridge between IB and
Fibre Channel networks, routing IB host-initiated storage requests to Fibre Channel target devices and
handling data responses to these requests. The Cisco SFS 3500 Fibre Channel gateway acts as a target
device in an IB network and an initiator device in a Fibre Channel fabric. The switch supports one to
four Fibre Channel gateway cards. The Product ID number for the Fibre Channel gateway card is
SFS-3500-FCGW-4G.

Ethernet Gateway Card
The Cisco SFS-3500-ENGW-1G Ethernet gateway is a 6-port, 1 Gbps per-port capable, full-duplex
InfiniBand-to-Ethernet gateway card for the Cisco SFS 3504 Server Switch chassis (see
Figure 1-7
). The
gateway acts as a bridge between IB and Ethernet networks and forwards traffic from one interface to
the other in either direction. IP traffic, encapsulated in IB packets, coming from IB hosts are forwarded
to the Ethernet ports, and Ethernet traffic, coming from Ethernet ports, are encapsulated into IB packets
and forwarded to the IB fabric. The Cisco SFS 3504 chassis supports between one and four Ethernet
gateway cards. The Product ID number for the Ethernet gateway card is SFS-3500-ENGW-1G.
