Starting and Operating Instructions
. . . 200
To release the parking brake, hold
the regular brake pedal down with
your right foot. Pull up the parking
brake lever until you can push the
button on top of the lever. Hold in
the button while completely
lowering the lever.
CAUTION
If the parking brake is not set
properly, the vehicle may move
suddenly and/or cause an acci-
dent. See a dealer for service if
brake adjustment is required.
CAUTION
Do not use the parking brake
while the vehicle is in motion,
or as a substitute for the brake
pedal.
You could lose control of the
vehicle and you or others may
be injured.
NOTICE
Do not drive with the parking
brake set.
Driving with the parking brake
on can cause the rear brakes to
overheat. The rear brakes, and
even other parts of the vehicle,
may be damaged. Always check
that the parking brake is fully
released before you begin to
drive.
Make sure the brake system
warning light is off.
Parking Brake Lever Travel
The parking brake lever travel
must be 9-11 notches, with a force
of approximately 20 kgf.
To check the parking brake lever
travel, turn the engine off. Apply
the parking brake and count the
notch clicks.
See your dealer if the parking
brake travel differs from the norm.
The parking brake needs to be
adjusted.

SUSPENSION
The suspension system in your
vehicle is designed to keep the
vehicle level and to provide a
smooth and controlled ride.
■
VEHICLE LOADING
CAUTION
Things you put inside your
vehicle can strike and injure
people in a sudden stop or turn,
or in a crash. Put things in the
cargo area of your vehicle and
try to spread the weight evenly.
Never stack things inside the
vehicle any higher than the
seatbacks. Do not leave
unsecured child restraints inside
the vehicle. Try to secure
anything that is carried inside
the vehicle.
CAUTION
If you try to carry something
on top of your vehicle that is
longer or wider than the
luggage carrier - like paneling,
plywood, a mattress, and so
forth - the wind can catch it as
you drive along. What you are
carrying could be violently torn
off, and this could cause you or
other drivers to have a collision,
and of course damage your
vehicle. Never carry something
longer or wider than your
luggage carrier on top of your
vehicle.
