Seats and Restraints
. . . 144
The lap/shoulder belt should be
worn as shown above.
CAUTION
Wear your belt fitted closely
against the body. Do not wear
your shoulder belt under your
arm or behind your back.
Make sure the belt is not
twisted across your body, and
never secure a safety belt over
an armrest (if equipped).
The shoulder belt should go over
the shoulder and across the chest.
These parts of the body are best
able to take belt restraining forces.
The shoulder belt should not cross
the face or neck.
The lap part of the belt should be
worn low and snug on the hips,
just touching the thighs. In a
crash, this applies force to the
strong pelvic bones, and you
would be less likely to slide under
the lap belt. If you slid under it, the
belt would apply force to your
abdomen. This could cause serious
or even fatal injuries.
CAUTION
You could be seriously injured if
your belt is buckled in the
wrong place. Always buckle
your belt into the buckle
nearest you.
The safety belt locks if there is a
sudden stop or crash, or if you pull
the belt very quickly out of the
retractor.

Shoulder Belt Height Adjuster
(If equipped)
Your vehicle may be equipped
with shoulder belt height
adjusters.
Adjust the shoulder belt height
before driving.
You should adjust it so the belt
goes above your shoulder and
away from your face and neck.
To move the height adjuster
down, press the release button
and slide it down to the proper
height.
To move the height adjuster up,
just push up on the shoulder belt
guide.
After setting the adjuster at the
proper height, pull it slightly down
to make sure it is locked in place.
CAUTION
Maladjustment of the safety
belt height could reduce the
effectiveness of the safety belt
in a crash.
REMOVABLE REAR CENTER
LAP/SHOULDER BELT
Your vehicle may be equipped
with a removable center rear
safety belt.
The rear center safety belt system
includes a retractable safety belt, a
buckle with a key hole, and a
buckle with a red release button
marked
CENTER
(center).
Note:
The latch plate at the end of the
center safety belt strap only fits
in the buckle with the key hole.
