Brake Pedal Travel
See your dealer if the brake pedal
does not return to normal height,
or if there is a rapid increase in
pedal travel. This could be a sign
that service is required.
Brake Pedal Free Play
Brake pedal free play must be
1-8 mm.
To check the brake pedal free play,
turn the engine off and press the
brake pedal several times to
deplete the vacuum in the brake
system. Then, when you press the
brake pedal by hand, measure the
distance the pedal moves until
there is a slight resistance.
See your dealer if the brake pedal
free play differs from the norm.
The brakes need to be adjusted.
Antilock Brake System
(If equipped)
The antilock brake system helps
you maintain directional stability
on wet or slippery road surfaces. It
automatically controls the brake
operation when braking.
This occurs only during a brake
application which would have
caused one or more wheels to
lock. You don't have to 'pump' the
brakes. Just hold the brake pedal
down. You may feel or hear it
pulsate, but this is normal.
The antilock brake system can help
you maintain steering control
during a hard brake application.

Section
3
As you brake, the system receives
updates on wheel speed and
controls braking pressure at
each wheel separately to make the
conditions.
You may feel some vibration or
hear a noise when the system is
active. This is normal.
NOTICE
The antilock brake system does
not change the time you need
to apply the brakes, and it does
not always decrease stopping
distances. Always leave enough
room to stop.
When you first start the vehicle
and begin to drive away, the
system performs a self-check.
You may hear a clicking noise or
feel the brake pedal move during
the self-check. This is normal.
If the Antilock Brake System
Warning Light turns on, there is a
problem with the brake system.
See "Antilock Brake System
Warning Light" in Section 1 for
more information.
Parking Brake
The parking brake lever is located
between the front seats.
Make sure the vehicle is stopped
before you apply the parking
brake.
To set the parking brake, hold the
regular brake pedal down with
your right foot and then pull up on
the parking brake lever.
