Once the location of the base radio station is determined, indicate it on the map
in your network plan.
10.2.6 Planning RF451 Radio Networks
The CRVW3 can be purchased with the –RF451 communications option (i.e.,
as a CRVW3-RF451). This manual refers to the radio networks used by
CRVW3-RF451 devices as RF451 radio networks . The following devices can
be used to create a functioning station within an RF451 radio network:
• CRVW3-RF451
• RF450 radio+modem (pn 18326, www.campbellsci.com/rf450 )
•
RF451 radio+modem (pn 31412, www.campbellsci.com/rf451 )
•
CR6-RF451 (CR6 datalogger with built-in RF451 radio, pn 31697
www.campbellsci.com/cr6 )
Certain compatible radio devices available from Freewave
( www.freewave.com ) can also be configured to operate in an
RF451 radio network. Call your Campbell Scientific support
representative for more details.
Every RF451 network requires one radio to be defined as the master radio .
This master radio is the main component of the base station, i.e., the base
station is defined as the station that controls the master radio. Communications
entering or exiting the RF451 network are routed through the master radio
station. Usually the RF451 will be used as the master radio in the base station
of an RF451 radio network. The RF451 can also be used to create dedicated
repeater stations in an RF451 network. CRVW3-RF451 end-node stations are
defined and configured as Slave stations. CRVW3-RF451 repeater stations are
defined and configured as Slave/Repeater stations.
You should rent the Radio Test Kit (pn 21107) to perform in-field site
exploration and radio link strength testing when designing an RF451 radio
network.

10.2.6.1 Base Station Design for RF451 Radio Networks
For most base station designs on an RF451 radio network, the RF451
radio+modem device should be used. It is configured as the master radio when
implemented as the main component of base station.
