10.1.3 CRVW3 End-node Station
A CRVW3 end-node station is a radio-enabled CRVW3 (i.e., with the –RF407
or –RF451 option) that communicates with only one other station. The single
remote (neighboring) station can be either a repeater station or the base station.
10.1.4 CRVW3 Repeater Station
A CRVW3 repeater station is a radio-enabled CRVW3 that communicates with
two or more other stations. The purpose of a repeater station is to relay radio
communications between other stations that cannot communicate with each
other directly. Stations can sometimes be out of range from each other or are
impeded by interfering geographic features.
It takes a little more time for communications to occur between the two
stations that use a repeater, although that delay usually doesn’t cause any
problems. To operate as a repeater station, the
Is Router
setting of the
CRVW3 (found on the
PakBus
tab in
DevConfig
) should be set to
True
(see
(p. 23)
, for how to configure the
Is Router
setting). For a CRVW3-RF451 repeater station, the radio of the
CRVW3 must also be configured as a repeater. (This is not necessary for a
CRVW3-RF407 station.)
A CRVW3 repeater station can measure its own sensors (up to 3), store that
data, and communicate it back to the base station. It does this in addition to
passing radio messages between any of the remote stations with which it can
communicate.
10.1.5 Dedicated Repeater Station
A dedicated repeater station (also called a repeater-only station) is a radio
station whose only purpose is to relay radio communications between two or
more remote stations. It does not make measurements of its own. Because no
sensor measurements are required at the repeater location, this kind of station
provides a lower-cost connectivity option. All of its communications are
triggered by requests from remote stations to forward data to another station
with which that remote station cannot communicate directly. The main
component of this station is a radio that can communicate on the radio network
with other CRVW3 stations and usually the base station. For a CRVW3-RF407
network, the repeating component is an RF407. For a CRVW3-RF451
network, the repeating component is an RF450 or RF451. See Section
(p. 68)
10.1.6 Aggregating Datalogger Station
An aggregating datalogger station is a CR6-series, CR3000, CR1000, CR800-
series, or CR300-series datalogger (
www.campbellsci.com/dataloggers
) whose
purpose is to communicate with multiple CRVW3 stations and collect data
from them. A radio that is compatible with the network must be integrated to
this datalogger (using an RF407, RF451, or RF450). Once data is collected
from the remote CRVW3 stations, it is stored on the datalogger (aggregated) so
it can be retrieved later by
LoggerNet
or other data collection agents. It is
possible for an aggregating datalogger station to also function as the base
station of the network, but it is not required.
