operation of your automatic collection process, you should plan to use a
computer that operates 24 hours per day and 7 days per week, is readily
available for establishing remote connections, and whose main purpose is to
constantly run
LoggerNet
. This is recommended even if you have other copies
of LoggerNet running on desktop computers in your office or on portable
computers (laptops). To manage CRVW3 stations with LoggerNet , you must
have version 4.3 or later.

The computer running LoggerNet can be a Windows PC/server or it can be a
Linux server (Debian, RedHat, SuSE, CentOS, and related distributions). The
machine can be located in your office, or it can be maintained elsewhere in
your organization by IT personnel. It can run on the internet cloud (hosted or
virtual), or it can be located adjacent to your field deployment site. To facilitate
the hosted operation of LoggerNet , consider the use of LoggerNet Admin and
LoggerNet Remote (see the LoggerNet Packages section of this brochure:

Because data collected from sensors is a key deliverable, you should plan
carefully so that a computer running LoggerNet with the above capabilities is
available for use. For most automatic data collection scenarios, only one
instance of
LoggerNet
is required. If the number of stations in your network
exceeds 85, deploying multiple LoggerNet instances may improve data
collection performance.
10.1.2 Base Radio Station
The purpose of a base radio station (also called a “base station”) is to be a
gateway for communications between the radio network (which is your group
of multiple CRVW3 stations) and other devices that communicate with them
through some other communications medium. The LoggerNet computer is
typically the most important device that communicates with your radio network
via the base station.
