Sealed Lead Acid Battery (rechargeable)
The sealed lead acid battery requires a charger to keep it charged, such as the solar panel battery
charger. If a weak battery is detected, both the battery and charging system should be checked as
soon as possible and the battery replaced when required.

The sealed lead acid battery must be fully charged prior to installing the Bullhorn
unit. If you need to charge the lead acid battery before you begin the installation, see Optional AC
Battery Charger and Cable on page 11 and Optional AC/DC Battery Charger Kit on page 12 for
additional information.
The sealed lead acid battery can be stored for up to 1 year but must always be kept in a charged
condition. A periodic topping charge is required to prevent the open cell voltage from dropping
below 2.1 volts/cell or 12.6 volts. If permitted to self-discharge beyond that critical threshold,
sulfation may occur which can drastically change the recharge characteristics and negatively affect
the life of the battery. A battery that has been allowed to self-discharge beyond this limit may
require several discharge/charge cycles to bring the battery back to a usable condition.
If the sealed lead acid battery has been in storage for 2 months or longer, especially at temperatures
above 30°C (86°F), you’ll need to charge the battery before configuring and using the Bullhorn
unit.
If you need to store lead acid batteries for an extended period of time, monitor the voltage
periodically and recharge the battery when the open cell voltage is at or below 2.25 volts per cell or
13.5 volts. For more information on obtaining a battery charger, please contact Technical Support.
