Indicator and w arning lamps

M any of the system s of your B M W
m onitor them selves autom atic ally, b oth
d uring engine starts and w hile you are
d riving. Ind ic ator and w arning lam p s
that are id entified b y "
●
" are tested for
p rop er func tioning w henever the igni-
tion key is turned . They eac h light up
onc e for d ifferent p eriod s of tim e.
If a fault should oc c ur in one of these
system s, the c orresp ond ing lam p d oes
not go out after the engine is started or
it lights up w hile the vehic le is m oving.
You w ill see how to reac t to this b elow .
Red: stop immediately
B attery c harge c urrent

The b attery is no longer b eing
c harged . There is a m alfunc tion
of the alternator V- b elt or in the
c harging c irc uit of the alternator. Please
c ontac t the nearest B M W c enter.
If the V- b elt is d efec tive, d o not
c ontinue d riving. The engine c ould
b e d am aged d ue to overheating. If the
V- b elt is d efec tive, inc reased steering
effort is also req uired .

Engine oil p ressure

Stop the vehic le im m ed iately
and sw itc h off the engine.
Chec k the engine oil level; top up as
req uired . If the oil level is c orrec t:
p lease c ontac t the nearest B M W
c enter.
Do not c ontinue d riving. The
engine c ould b e d am aged
b ec ause of inad eq uate lub ric ation.
