2.1
General
Due to the cost advantages offered by the efficient utilisation of available
transmission capacities, low-bit-rate encoding is becoming increasingly im-
portant for the transmission of audio signals. The MAGIC system (Multi Audio
system with Groupable Interfaces and Codecs) was developed for this rea-
son. With the system, high-quality audio signals can be transmitted bidirectio-
nally in CD-transparent quality. Its main application is the transmission of one
or more channels via ISDN, satellite or data networks.
All standardised methods of data reduction for audio signals (ITU-T G.711,
G.722, G.728, ISO/MPEG Layer II (DAB) and III) are integrated into the MA-
GIC system. The procedures which ensure secure and synchronous transmis-
sion also comply with international standards and recommendations (ITU-R
J.52), thus guaranteeing the future-oriented concept of the MAGIC system as
well as its compatibility with all systems implementing these standards

MAGIC audio system, we recommend that you read chapters
2 and 3 first.
