4.6.5 Installing the Spring Washers, Cap, and Micro-Adjustment Cap
Before installing the spring washers and micro-adjustment cap, read the procedures described under
Adjusting Response Times
. After the film coater is completely rebuilt, you may have to remove the micro-
adjustment and film coater caps. Add or remove spring washers to obtain the performance required for
your application.
4.6.5.1 Adjusting the Response Times
The film coater may require adjusting to produce appropriate response times. Adjust the number of spring
washers and the preload screw tension to yield the desired response time. Remove spring washers
and/or increasing preload screw tension to shorten response times. Add spring washers and/or loosen
preload screw tension to lengthen response times. See
To determine appropriate response times:
1. Characterize the film coater with the appropriate material. Refer to the system manual and
the
Easy Coat User Guide
.
2. Inspect the film pattern to determine if it is acceptable. See Figure 4-10
for examples of
unacceptable patterns.
3. If the pattern is not acceptable, adjust the micro-adjustment cap, fluid pressure, or the
Z height.
4. If the pattern does not improve, adjust the preload screw
1/4
-inch turn from the original
setting. Recharacterize the film coater to see if the pattern is acceptable.
5. If the film patterns are still unacceptable, you may need to add or subtract spring washers.
NOTE
Spring washers are usually added or removed in groups of four.
a. If on and off hammerheads are present, remove spring washers to the next lower setting.
b. If the pattern tapers when the coater is turned on and drools when the coater is turned
off, add spring washers to the next higher setting.
