Operating and Maintaining the Machine
Safely

This section describes the hazards of operating and
maintaining the machine and identifies the safety
devices for reducing risk of injury.

Emergency Stop

CAUTION

Know the location of the Emergency Stop switch
(Figure 35) before operating the machine.

The Emergency Stop switch is the best way to shut
down the entire machine in an emergency.

The switch locks when pushed. It must be manually
pulled out again before restarting the engine.

Important

Do not use the Battery Disconnect Switch for
machine shutdown. Turning off (opening) the Bat-
tery Disconnect Switch while the engine is running
can cause electrical damage to the alternator, the
Peterson Adaptive Control System, the engine
Electronic Control Module (ECM), and other sensi-
tive parts.

Remote Machine Stop

The OFF & STOP button on the remote transmitter
(Figure 36) can stop the machine by shutting down the
engine.

CAUTION

The OFF & STOP button is not an emergency
stop. It depends on a good radio signal and
charged transmitter batteries to send the Stop
signal to the machine. Be prepared to use the
Emergency Stop.

OTE

:

Using the OFF & STOP button is not a substitute for

normal shutdown at the control panel. For normal shutdown
instructions, see “Shutting Down” on page 82.

OTE

:

The remote Power ON switch does NOT shut down

the engine. It turns on the battery power for the remote trans-
mitter.
