9. Check the Bit-to-Anvil Gap
. Make sure the gap
between the anvil and bits is 3/8 to 3/4 in.
(1–2 cm) (Figure 117).
Check anvil mounting bolts for proper tightness. As
needed, retighten the nuts to 188 ft-lb (255 Nm).
Important
Excessive anvil wear can lead to the anvil breaking
apart. Options for replacing or repairing the anvil
are discussed in section 5000 of the 6700B Mainte-
nance Manual.
N
OTE
:
The anvil can be reversed one time to expose a
new wear surface. See instructions for reversing, repair-
ing, and replacing the anvil in section 5000 of the 6700B
Maintenance Manual.

10. Check the Rotor Gauging Bars
. Check the gaug-
ing bars (Figure 117) for wear. Worn gauging bars
increase the load on the engine.
Replace or repair the gauging bars when the gap
between the old bar and a new anvil is 2 in. (5 cm).
The gauging bars should be hard-faced.
N
OTE
:
The gap between a new bar and a new anvil is
1-1/8 in. (3 cm).
