Transferring from a Lying to a Seated Position
Fig. 37
WARNING:
Make sure that the bed safety rail is
installed to prevent the patient from falling.
Before you begin, make sure that the bed is at the
correct working height.
1) Roll the patient onto their side. Fold the sling in
half and place it on the bed along the back of the
patient, with the bottom of the sling well below the
coccyx, and the top of the sling reaching the top of
the patient's head (with MAA8000 and MAA8010
model slings).

2) Roll the patient back onto the sling and then roll
the patient in the opposite direction, so that the folded
part of the sling can be straightened out.
If possible, slightly raise the head of the bed.

3) Approach the patient with the ceiling lift, and
ensure that:
The spreader bar is in
the flat position.
The spreader bar is close
enough to be able to
connect the sling straps
to it.
4) Using the hand control,
lower the spreader bar
taking care not to lower it onto the patient.
5) Connect the sling shoulder and leg loop straps to
the spreader bar.
WARNING:
Always confirm that the sling loop
straps are correctly attached and remain in
tension as the weight of the patient is gradually
taken up. This will prevent a patient fall.
