AMI BIOS Displayed Error Messages

If an error occurs after POST has initialized the system video monitor,

the error is displayed in the following format:

ERROR Message Line 1
ERROR Message Line 2
Press <F1> to RESUME

The error message is displayed and then

Press the <F1> key to continue

is displayed and the system halts.

The system does not halt after the <F1> message if

Wait for <F1> If

Any Error

in Advanced CMOS Setup is

Disabled.

If a second message

appears, it is usually:

RUN SETUP UTILITY.

If this message occurs, press <F1> to run AMI BIOS Setup.

Displayed Error Messages

Error Message

Explanation

8042 Gate-A20 Error

Gate A20 on the keyboard controller (8042) is not
working. Replace the 8042.

Address Line Short!

An error has occurred in the address decoding
circuitry on the motherboard.

C: Drive Error

No response from hard disk drive C:. Drive C: may
be missing. If installed, run the Hard Disk Utility to
correct this problem. Also, check the C: hard disk
type in Standard CMOS Setup to make sure that the
hard disk drive type is correct.

C: Drive Failure

No response from hard disk drive C:. Replace drive
C:.

Cache Memory Bad, Do Not
Enable Cache!

Cache memory on the motherboard is defective.
Test cache memory with a diagnostics utility, such
as AMI Diag.

CH-2 Timer Error

AT motherboards include two timers. An error
occurred with timer #2.

CMOS Battery State Low

CMOS RAM is powered by a battery. The battery
power is low. Replace the battery.

CMOS Checksum Failure

After CMOS RAM values are saved, a checksum
value is generated for error checking. This message
appears if the previous value is different from the
current value. Run Setup.

CMOS System Options Not

The values stored in CMOS RAM are either corrupt or
